Family Safeguarding in Somerset focuses on keeping children safely within their families wherever possible, working collaboratively with adult service specialists to address issues such as domestic abuse, substance misuse, and mental health. You will play a key role in building relationships, managing risk, and ensuring children’s voices are at the centre of your work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold a caseload of children subject to Child in Need, Child Protection or Public Law Outline (PLO) processes

  • Undertake high-quality assessments and develop effective plans that promote safety and positive outcomes

  • Work collaboratively with in-house adult specialists (substance misuse, mental health, DV workers)

  • Chair multi-agency meetings, contribute to legal planning, and produce robust court reports when required

  • Use motivational interviewing and relationship-based practice to support meaningful change with families

About You

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A recognised social work qualification and current Social Work England registration

  • Post-qualification experience in statutory children’s services (ideally within safeguarding/family support)

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, thresholds, and procedures

  • The ability to work independently while being part of a multi-agency team

  • A commitment to reflective practice and outcomes-focused social work

Why Somerset?

  • Competitive pay rate £38.00
