Senior Social Worker – Children in Care | Full Time | Hybrid Working
Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking experienced Senior Social Workers with a strong background in Children in Care to join their dedicated team. If you are passionate about making a real difference to the lives of children and young people in care, we would love to hear from you.
Our Children in Care service supports children aged 0-18 who are under a local authority care order. We are committed to ensuring each child has the right plan for their needs, whether living within their family network, foster care, or residential care. We routinely review families to assess progress and work towards reunification where possible.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a caseload of 16-18 children and young people in care
Engage creatively with children and young people to ensure their voice and wishes inform care planning
Conduct robust risk assessments and manage safeguarding concerns
Undertake court work related to care order discharges, placement progression, and adoption orders
Work closely with multi-agency partners to promote permanency and wellbeing
Participate in a duty rota every third week, requiring office presence
Practice Model:
Our service uses a relationship-based and child-focused approach, underpinned by reflective and restorative supervision. We promote hybrid working with 40-50% office attendance to foster team support and professional belonging.
Essential Requirements:
Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
Significant post-qualified experience in Children in Care services
Strong assessment, analysis, and care planning skills
Experience in court work related to children in care
Excellent understanding of risk and safeguarding practice
Ability to work collaboratively within a supportive, multidisciplinary team
Benefits:
£33.30 per hour
Full-time Monday to Friday working pattern
Hybrid working model (40-50% office-based)
Mileage expenses reimbursed for travel to visits
