Head of Service – Adult Social Care & Health (Operations)
Full Time | 37 Hours per Week | Hybrid Working

East Sussex County Council is seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Service to lead its Adult Social Care & Health Operations. This interim assignment offers an exciting opportunity to drive service delivery and transformation across a broad geographic area, including Lewes (County Hall), Eastbourne, and Hastings.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in overseeing frontline adult social care services, supporting operational teams, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care that meets statutory responsibilities and local priorities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage adult social care operational teams across multiple locations
• Ensure compliance with legislative frameworks including the Care Act, MCA, and safeguarding requirements
• Work closely with senior stakeholders across health and social care systems
• Drive performance, quality improvement, and transformation in service delivery
• Provide strategic oversight of workforce, budgets, and service planning
• Contribute to corporate initiatives and partnership working across the region

Working Arrangements:
This role offers hybrid flexibility, with a minimum of 1 day per week onsite (subject to increase depending on service needs or meetings). Primary base is County Hall, Lewes, with services also operating from Eastbourne and Hastings.

Essential Requirements:

• Substantial senior leadership experience within Adult Social Care
• Proven ability to manage large operational teams across multiple sites
• Deep understanding of adult social care legislation, policy, and best practice
• Strong financial, strategic, and operational leadership skills
• Excellent communication and partnership working abilities

Assignment Details:

• Rate: £500–£600 per day
• Hours: 37 per week
• Contract: Interim (inside IR35)
• Location: Lewes (County Hall), with travel to Eastbourne and Hastings as required
