Senior Social Worker – Advice and Wellbeing Hub (Homelessness)
Hybrid Working | Homelessness & Complex Needs | Must Be Local to Reading

Reading Borough Council is recruiting a Senior Social Worker to join their Advice and Wellbeing Hub, working in close partnership with the Homelessness Teams. This role focuses on supporting individuals with complex needs, including rough sleepers and those in supported accommodation to achieve stability and sustained housing.

You’ll work with people facing multiple challenges such as hoarding, aggression, mental health issues, poor self-care, and substance misuse. The aim is to provide proactive interventions that prevent eviction, promote independence, and reduce repeat homelessness. Your support will empower commissioned services to manage behaviours more effectively and help residents move on positively.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work directly with individuals in homelessness services and rough sleeping
• Support behaviour management, care planning, and risk assessment
• Deliver outreach and in-reach support in placements such as The Pods and Salvation Army
• Collaborate with housing providers and commissioned services
• Support individuals to maintain accommodation and work toward independent living
• Use trauma-informed and person-centred practice to support complex needs

Working Arrangements:

• Hybrid working: home-based, civic office, and outreach locations
• Must be within commuting distance of Reading due to in-person duties
• Full-time locum role within the Advice and Wellbeing Hub

Essential Requirements:

• Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
• Significant experience in adult social care, homelessness, or complex needs
• Strong multi-agency working and communication skills
• Confident working independently and managing your own time
• Solid understanding of safeguarding, risk, and housing legislation
