Children’s Social Worker – Duty & Assessment Service
Full-Time | Office Based | Manchester

Manchester City Council is seeking an experienced Children’s Social Worker to join the Duty & Assessment Service. This is a frontline role requiring confidence, resilience, and the ability to hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment.

Role Overview:
You will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking statutory assessments for children and families referred to the service
  • Carrying out Section 47 enquiries and Child & Family Assessments
  • Working with families through Child in Need, Child Protection, and Care Proceedings
  • Analysing risk, identifying safeguarding concerns, and making clear recommendations
  • Working collaboratively with partner agencies to improve outcomes for children
  • Ensuring timely, high-quality recording and evidence-based practice

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
  • Proven experience in Duty & Assessment or frontline safeguarding services
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload and make effective decisions under pressure
  • Strong risk assessment, planning, and intervention skills
  • Commitment to improving outcomes for children and families

Working Arrangements:

  • Full-time, 5 days per week
  • Fully office-based
  • Initial 3-month contract (with potential to extend)
