About the Role

West Sussex County Council is seeking a Qualified Social Worker to join their Safeguarding Team based in Chichester. In this vital role, you will work directly with children and families, providing safeguarding interventions to ensure safety, stability, and positive long-term outcomes. You’ll carry out assessments, manage a varied caseload, and collaborate with multi-agency partners to deliver high-quality, child-centred practice in line with statutory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake safeguarding assessments and develop clear, outcome-focused plans to address risk and need.

  • Manage a diverse caseload of children and families, prioritising safety and well-being.

  • Work collaboratively with professionals across schools, health, police, and voluntary organisations.

  • Contribute to child protection conferences, reviews, and court proceedings as required.

  • Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with statutory guidance and local policies.

  • Engage with children and families through home visits and direct work, building trust and resilience.

  • Reflect critically on practice, adapting approaches to ensure the best possible outcomes.


About You

We are looking for an experienced, committed Social Worker with:

  • Qualifications: Degree in Social Work and current registration with Social Work England.

  • Experience: Proven background in children’s safeguarding, including risk assessment and child protection work.

  • Skills: Strong assessment, planning, and communication skills, with the ability to manage complex caseloads.

  • Attributes: Resilience, empathy, and a collaborative approach to safeguarding children and supporting families.
