Senior Social Worker – Child Assessment Team (CAT)

Lambeth | Locum | £39.04 per hour | Hybrid Working

Lambeth Council is seeking experienced Senior Social Workers to join their Child Assessment Team (CAT). This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy frontline service managing referrals, assessments, and safeguarding interventions to ensure children receive the right support at the earliest opportunity.

The team requires practitioners who can start as soon as possible and who are confident working within a fast-paced assessment environment. Candidates must be able to attend the office at least twice per week and be able to commute independently, as there is no on-site parking available.

In this role, you will:

• Undertake Child and Family Assessments
• Complete Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries and investigations
• Manage Child in Need and Child Protection cases during the assessment phase
• Assess risk and develop outcome-focused plans for children and families
• Undertake direct work with children to understand their lived experiences and needs
• Lead and participate in strategy discussions and multi-agency meetings
• Progress cases through pre-proceedings and court processes where required
• Prepare high-quality assessments, reports, and court documentation
• Maintain accurate and timely case recordings
• Work effectively within a busy duty and assessment environment

What You’ll Need:

• Social Work England Registration
• Social Work Qualification
• Minimum 3 years' recent Child Assessment Team (CAT) experience
• Strong Child in Need and Child Protection experience
• Court work and pre-proceedings experience
• Ability to manage complex safeguarding cases confidently
• Resilient, committed, and able to work in a fast-paced service
• Able to attend the office at least 2 days per week
• Ability to commute independently to the office location
