Assessment Social Worker – Barnet Assessment Team

Location: Barnet, London
Type: Full-time 
Pay: £39 per hour 


The Role

Barnet Council is seeking experienced Assessment Social Workers to join its fast-paced Assessment Team. You will play a vital role in carrying out timely assessments of children and families, identifying risk, and ensuring safeguarding interventions are in place from the outset.

This role is central to Barnet’s vision of providing safe, resilient, and thriving communities, where children are protected and families receive the right help at the right time.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete high-quality child & family assessments within statutory timescales.

  • Analyse risk, strengths, and needs to determine the most effective interventions.

  • Work in partnership with families and multi-agency professionals, including police, health, and education.

  • Present clear, evidence-based recommendations at strategy meetings and child protection conferences.

  • Ensure all decisions and reports reflect Barnet’s commitment to strengths-based practice and early intervention.


Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.

  • Minimum 3 years’ statutory experience in children’s services (Assessment, Duty, or Safeguarding).

  • Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, thresholds, and statutory guidance.

  • Excellent assessment, analysis, and report-writing skills.

  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and meet deadlines.
