About Us
Birmingham Children’s Trust is dedicated to supporting and safeguarding children and families in Birmingham, creating a brighter and safer future for every child in our community. We strive for excellence in social care, working within a supportive and collaborative environment that fosters professional growth and a commitment to impactful social work practice.

About the Role
We are currently seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Pre-Birth Assessment Team. This team focuses on conducting assessments for unborn children where there may be safeguarding concerns, ensuring that we intervene early to support families and provide necessary protections. As a Senior Social Worker, you will play a vital role in assessing and managing complex cases, while providing guidance and support to colleagues within the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough pre-birth assessments to evaluate risk and support planning for the unborn child and family.

  • Develop and maintain robust safeguarding plans, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure a comprehensive support network.

  • Support and mentor less experienced social workers, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices within the team.

  • Manage complex cases with professionalism, prioritizing the safety and welfare of each child.

  • Engage in reflective supervision sessions, ensuring high standards of case management and continuous professional development.

  • Liaise with external agencies, professionals, and family members to create a holistic approach to family support.

About You

We are looking for a Senior Social Worker who is passionate about making a difference and possesses a deep understanding of pre-birth assessment processes. Key skills and experience include:

  • Qualifications: A degree in Social Work and current registration with Social Work England.

  • Experience: Significant experience in child protection and safeguarding, ideally within pre-birth or early years settings.

  • Skills: Strong risk assessment skills, knowledge of relevant legislation, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

  • Teamwork: Excellent communication skills with a collaborative approach, supporting and mentoring team members.

  • Commitment: A strong commitment to delivering quality services that improve outcomes for children and families.
