The Role

Swindon Borough Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Social Worker to join its Safeguarding Team, working with children and families where there are significant child protection concerns. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident practitioner who thrives in statutory safeguarding work and is committed to achieving positive outcomes for children.

You will manage a varied caseload of child protection and complex Child in Need work, contributing to high-quality assessments, planning, and interventions in line with statutory guidance and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of children subject to Child Protection and Child in Need plans
  • Complete high-quality statutory assessments in line with legislation and guidance
  • Lead and contribute to strategy discussions, child protection conferences, and core groups
  • Undertake purposeful direct work with children and families to reduce risk and promote safety
  • Prepare clear, analytical court statements and reports when required
  • Work collaboratively with partner agencies to safeguard children
  • Maintain accurate, timely case recordings in line with council expectations

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Proven experience working within a Safeguarding / Child Protection team
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills
  • Confident in managing risk and making defensible decisions
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and safeguarding frameworks
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency environment
