Social Worker – Assessment
Location: Surrey
Rate: Up to £42.76 per hour
Contract: Locum, Full-Time (9–12 Month Maternity Cover)
Start Date: ASAP
Office: 2 days per week (3 days WFH)

Surrey County Council are looking for a skilled and reliable Social Worker to join their Assessment Team on a long-term maternity cover. You’ll be stepping into a well-structured team with strong management and practical support in place. This team handles cases from referral through to initial Child in Need or Child Protection planning and no long-term case holding. If you’ve got a solid grasp of thresholds and experience making quick, informed decisions, this could be the one for you! 

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake Section 17 and Section 47 assessments
• Carry out home visits and complete child-centred direct work
• Produce clear, analytical reports to support care planning and risk analysis
• Present cases at legal gateway and child protection conferences
• Liaise closely with MASH, health, schools and early help services
• Ensure all work is compliant with the Children Act and Working Together guidance
• Keep case records up to date and reflective of your interventions

What They’re Looking For

• Social Work England registration
• Strong experience in Assessment or Front Door teams
• Confident making threshold decisions under pressure
• Must be a driver with access to a vehicle
• Comfortable with 2 days in-office, 3 days WFH
