Social Worker - child in care

Milton Keynes | Locum | £38 per hour (Umbrella) | Hybrid Working (Minimum 3 Days Office-Based)

Milton Keynes Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their Children in Care Service, based at Civic Offices, Saxon Gate East, Milton Keynes. You’ll work with children and young people in care, delivering high-quality assessments, care planning, and direct work to ensure stability, safety, and positive long-term outcomes.

In this role, you’ll manage a varied caseload of children in care, progressing care plans, supporting permanency planning, and undertaking meaningful direct and life story work. You’ll work closely with families, carers, adopters, and partner agencies to ensure children’s needs are met and their voices are central to all decision-making.

What You’ll Need:

• Social Work England Registration
• Social Work Qualification
• Adoption and Children in Care (CIC) experience within the last 5 years (essential)
• Strong assessment, care planning, and report-writing skills
• Experience working within statutory children’s social care
• Ability to manage risk and maintain high-quality case records
• Willingness to work hybrid, with a minimum expectation of 3 days per week in the office
• Completion of the DfE Cover Sheet (must be submitted)
