The Role

We are recruiting a committed and motivated Social Worker to join the Referral and Assessment Service. This is a frontline statutory role focused on undertaking timely assessments, managing safeguarding concerns, and ensuring children and families receive the right support at the right time.

You will work at the front door of children’s services, completing high-quality assessments, making informed threshold decisions, and progressing cases appropriately to long-term teams, early help, or other services.


About the Service

The Referral and Assessment service plays a critical role in ensuring effective early decision-making and safeguarding for children. The service is supported by experienced managers, clear pathways, and a strong emphasis on reflective supervision and quality practice.

There is a clear commitment to supporting social workers through manageable caseloads, regular supervision, and a culture that values learning and professional development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete statutory Section 17 and Section 47 assessments
  • Respond effectively to referrals, undertaking timely visits and analysis
  • Identify risk, protective factors, and appropriate interventions
  • Make clear threshold decisions in line with statutory guidance
  • Work closely with partner agencies to ensure coordinated responses
  • Prepare high-quality reports and case recordings
  • Progress cases appropriately to long-term teams or alternative services

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Experience within Referral & Assessment, Duty, or Front Door services
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Confident managing risk and safeguarding concerns
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory guidance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
