Introduction

Gloucestershire County Council is seeking passionate and experienced Social Workers to join its Children’s Safeguarding Team on a permanent basis.

About the Service

The Safeguarding Teams in Gloucestershire work with children who are subject to Child in Need, Child Protection, and Care Proceedings. The service promotes a family-led, strengths-based approach, ensuring children’s voices are heard, and interventions are timely, proportionate, and effective.

You will join a service with a strong focus on reflective supervision, manageable caseloads, and a supportive management structure that values practitioner wellbeing and continuous professional development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Hold a caseload of Child Protection, Child in Need, and PLO cases.
  • Undertake high-quality Child and Family Assessments using a strengths-based approach.
  • Develop and implement Child Protection Plans and Care Plans to improve outcomes for children.
  • Build meaningful, trusting relationships with children and families to achieve sustainable change.
  • Lead and participate in multi-agency meetings, ensuring coordinated safeguarding responses.
  • Prepare court statements and provide evidence in legal proceedings where required.
  • Ensure all practice aligns with the Children Act 1989, Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018), and local procedures.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • At least 2 years’ post-qualified experience in statutory children’s safeguarding or assessment work
  • Excellent understanding of child protection procedures and legislation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-agency partners
  • Strong communication, analytical, and report-writing skills

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a Family Safeguarding or systemic practice model
  • Familiarity with Liquidlogic or similar case management systems
