Job Title: Social Worker – Children with Disabilities

Introduction

Sutton Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Social Worker to join their Children with Disabilities (CWD) Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with children and young people who have complex needs and to make a meaningful difference in their lives and those of their families.

About the Team

The Children with Disabilities Team works with children and young people aged 0–18 who have substantial, long-term disabilities. The service focuses on assessment, planning, and review under the Children Act 1989 and associated legislation.

You’ll work collaboratively with families, schools, and health professionals to deliver care packages that promote inclusion, safety, and improved outcomes for children with additional needs. Sutton’s CWD Team is well-regarded for its stability, experienced management, and strengths-based practice model.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of children and young people with complex disabilities and additional needs.
  • Undertake Child and Family Assessments, CIN, and Child Protection work in line with statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and participate in multi-agency reviews.
  • Develop and monitor person-centred care and support plans that meet assessed needs.
  • Undertake Section 47 enquiries and lead or contribute to safeguarding processes.
  • Work closely with families, schools, health, and voluntary sector partners to ensure holistic support.
  • Maintain clear, timely, and analytical case records using Sutton’s case management system.

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
  • Post-qualified experience within Children’s Services, ideally in a CWD or complex needs team
  • Knowledge of the Children Act 1989, Care Act 2014, and SEND legislation
  • Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and safeguarding work
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model (2–3 days in-office)

Desirable:

  • Experience in multi-agency work with health and education partners
  • Familiarity with Mosaic or similar case management systems
