Position: Qualified Social Worker
Team: Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)
Contract: Locum – Temporary cover for long-term sick leave
Hours: 35 hours per week
Pay Rate: £30.00 per hour
Location: Alexandra House, Hulme, Manchester
Working Pattern: Office-based Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (Hybrid)


Sheldon Phillips are working with Manchester City Council who are seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join their Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) team on a temporary basis, covering long-term staff absence.

This is a key front-door role focused on the screening and management of safeguarding referrals, ensuring timely and proportionate responses to adults at risk of harm or abuse. The successful candidate will bring strong safeguarding expertise, professional curiosity, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, multi-agency environment alongside colleagues from Health, Police, and other partner organisations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Screen, assess, and respond to safeguarding referrals and information received by the MASH.

  • Undertake proportionate enquiries in line with the Care Act 2014 and local safeguarding procedures.

  • Collect and analyse information to support defensible decision-making and effective risk management.

  • Contribute to multi-agency discussions and strategy meetings.

  • Provide professional advice, guidance, and consultation to partner agencies.

  • Prepare high-quality written reports and case documentation within agreed timescales.

  • Supervise and support students or junior colleagues where required.


Requirements:

  • SWE Registration and recognised Social Work qualification.

  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualified experience in Adult Safeguarding.

  • Proven experience in screening, enquiries, and multi-agency working.

  • Strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.

  • Excellent communication, listening, and analytical skills.

  • Legally literate and able to produce accurate, evidence-based written work.
