Position: Advanced Practitioner
Team: Children’s Social Care
Contract: Locum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £37 per hour
Location: Cudworth Lift Building, S72 8SU
Working Pattern: 3 days onsite
Sheldon Phillips are working with Barnsley MBC to recruit an experienced Advanced Practitioner to support their Children’s Social Care services. This role requires a highly skilled practitioner with strong experience in Child in Need and Child Protection work, as well as extensive court experience. You will play a key role in supporting less experienced Social Workers, mentoring them in practice, and working closely with the Team Manager to drive development and service improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Managing complex CIN, CP, and court-involved cases with confidence and autonomy
Completing high-quality assessments, risk analysis, and evidence-based recommendations
Preparing and presenting reports for court, attending hearings, and contributing to care planning
Providing mentoring, guidance, and professional support to less experienced Social Workers
Supporting the Team Manager with service development tasks and contributing to practice improvement
Chairing meetings, supporting decision-making, and ensuring timely progression of children’s plans
Maintaining accurate, reflective, and compliant case recording
Building strong relationships with partner agencies and ensuring effective multi-agency working
Requirements:
SWE Registration
Social Work qualification
Extensive post-qualified experience in CIN, CP, and court work
Experience supporting and mentoring other practitioners
Strong assessment, analytical, and written skills
Confidence in managing complex safeguarding cases
Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-agency setting
Full driving licence and access to a car
