Advanced Practitioner – Children in Care Team | Bury Council
Position: Advanced Social Work Practitioner
Team: Children in Care (CASS)
Contract: Locum – Initial 2 months (likely extension)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £37 per hour
Location: 3 Knowsley Place, Bury, BL9 0EJ
Start Date: ASAP
Working Pattern: Monday – Friday, full-time, hybrid

Sheldon Phillips is working with Bury Council to find an experienced and passionate Advanced Practitioner for their Children in Care Team (CASS). This is a key opportunity for a seasoned practitioner to support children and young people in care, ensuring they are safe, supported, and able to achieve positive outcomes as they transition into adulthood.
You’ll be joining a vibrant, supportive, and forward-thinking team within a local authority that is undergoing significant transformation in how it delivers children’s services. Your input will directly shape practice, improve outcomes, and contribute to a culture of excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Hold a manageable caseload of Looked After Children
Undertake regular statutory visits, assessments, and care planning
Work closely with carers, families, schools, and health services
Contribute to care proceedings, permanency planning, and pathway planning
Support and mentor less experienced staff
Ensure clear, timely, and high-quality case recording
Champion best practice and lead on improving outcomes for children in care
Requirements:
SWE Registration
Social Work qualification
Significant post-qualified experience within LAC/Children in Care
Strong safeguarding, assessment, and care planning skills
Experience in court work and multi-agency collaboration
Ability to supervise, support and model good practice to others
Up-to-date references covering 5 years, with all gaps accounted for
