Pay: £39.04 per hour

Barnet Council are recruiting an Advanced Practitioner to lead work within their Children with Disabilities team. This is a role for someone who combines strong leadership, practice expertise, and passion — especially where child protection, court work and working with children with complex disabilities intersect.

Barnet uses a Resilience-Based Practice Model (“Learning in Context”) that emphasises building on the strengths and aspirations of children, families, and communities; placing children at the centre of decision making; ensuring support is timely, relevant, and trauma-aware.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a caseload of children with disabilities (0-18yrs), including assessment, planning, review and transition work.
  • Carry out statutory child protection work, ensuring risk is identified, analysed and managed appropriately.
  • Prepare evidence and reports for court proceedings, care reviews, safeguarding conferences etc.
  • Oversee complex cases involving multiple agencies (health, education, specialist therapy, etc.), ensuring a coordinated approach.
  • Provide specialist advice, support and mentoring to less experienced social workers regarding disability work, child protection and court work.
  • Maintain high quality record keeping, case notes, plans, and ensure compliance with Barnet’s assessment and safeguarding protocols.
  • Contribute to service development, participate in reflective practice, peer supervision and continual improvement of processes within the CWD team.

What you’ll need:

  • Registration with Social Work England
  • Recognised Social Work qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Children’s Services, including experience working in Children with Disabilities teams
  • Proven experience in child protection, and court work
  • Strong multi-agency working skills
  • Right to Work in the UK

Why work with me? Because this isn’t just another role. I believe you deserve clarity, genuine respect, and a match that fits not only your skills, but your working style. I’ll always listen first—to what you want, to what you value—and work to find you the right environment.

If you're interested in this Advanced Practitioner role in Barnet, call me on 07561 805654 or email dmitchell@sheldon-phillips.com.

And don’t forget—refer a friend and if we place them, you could receive up to £300 referral bonus for locum roles and £500 for permanent placements (T&Cs apply).
