Approved Mental Health Professional – AMHP Service | Shropshire Council

Team: AMHP Service
Contract: Agency – 3 Months+
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £43 per hour (Umbrella)
Location: The Redwoods Centre, Somerby Drive, Shrewsbury, SY3 8DS

Sheldon Phillips are working with Shropshire Council to find an experienced AMHP to support their Mental Health Services based at The Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury. This is a key role providing vital support to the AMHP duty desk, Mental Health Act assessments, and wider hospital discharge work. You'll be joining a skilled and supportive team delivering high-quality interventions to adults across the county.
 

What You Can Expect:

  • Office base at The Redwoods Centre, with opportunities for some flexibility

  • Engaged and well-structured mental health team

  • Work alongside experienced AMHPs, hospital liaison teams and MDTs

  • Opportunities to support AMHP candidates and trainees

  • 3-month+ rolling contract with potential for extension
     

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cover and support the AMHP duty desk during business hours

  • Triaging Mental Health Act (MHA) assessment referrals

  • Undertake and support S.13 visits with other professionals

  • Provide mentoring to AMHP candidates on placement

  • Assist hospital discharge team with Mental Capacity Assessments (MCA) and S.117 aftercare planning
     

Requirements:

  • Qualified AMHP with valid approval to practice

  • Social Work qualification and Social Work England registration

  • Experience in triaging and coordinating Mental Health Act assessments

  • Strong understanding of MCA and Section 117 responsibilities

  • Ability to work flexibly and manage complex mental health cases

  • A proactive and supportive approach to multi-agency working
