Children in Care Team | Shropshire Council | £38 per hour

Shropshire Council is looking for an experienced Social Worker to join its Children in Care team on a locum basis. This is a strong opportunity for a committed practitioner who is confident working with looked after children, building meaningful relationships, and driving care plans forward to achieve the best possible outcomes.

This role would suit a Social Worker with solid statutory children’s services experience, a good understanding of care planning, and the ability to manage a caseload of looked after children with consistency and purpose.

Role Overview

As part of the Children in Care team, you will work with looked after children and young people to ensure their care plans are progressed effectively and their needs are met. You will be responsible for completing statutory visits, reviewing care plans, working closely with carers and partner agencies, and supporting children to achieve stability, permanence, and positive outcomes.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of looked after children and young people
  • Complete statutory visits and ensure care plans remain up to date and outcome focused
  • Work towards permanence planning for children in care
  • Prepare high-quality assessments, reports, and court statements where required
  • Work closely with foster carers, residential settings, schools, and health professionals
  • Attend looked after child reviews, planning meetings, and other relevant multi-agency meetings
  • Build strong, consistent relationships with children and young people to understand and promote their wishes and feelings

Requirements

  • Social Work England registration
  • Social Work qualification
  • Previous experience within a Children in Care, Looked After Children, or Permanence team
  • Strong knowledge of statutory responsibilities relating to looked after children
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work effectively within a busy local authority setting
  • Enhanced DBS
