Position: EDT Social Worker
Team: Emergency Duty Team (Adults & Children’s)
Contract: Locum – 3 Months+
Hours: Average 37 hours per week (rota based)
Pay Rate: £41 per hour
Location: Gloucestershire (county-wide)

Sheldon Phillips are working with Gloucestershire County Council to find an experienced Social Worker to join their Emergency Duty Team. This is a locum role offering a competitive rate of £41 per hour, working with both adults and children, though experience in children’s services is particularly sought after.
The Emergency Duty Team provides an urgent out-of-hours response to vulnerable adults, children and young people, ensuring safeguarding actions and interventions are taken where immediate decisions are required. This is a dynamic role within a small, supportive team of Senior Social Workers, ideal for someone flexible and confident in making sound judgements under pressure.
What You Can Expect:
A rota of 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off, averaging 37 hours per week
Shift-based work during evenings and weekends
A small, supportive team culture with peer support from experienced Senior Social Workers
Involvement in urgent safeguarding decisions and immediate interventions
Close partnership working with statutory and voluntary agencies out of hours
On-site work required – this is not a remote role
Duties and Responsibilities:
Respond to emergency safeguarding concerns for adults, children and families
Undertake urgent assessments and prioritise risk effectively
Provide immediate interventions and make safe, informed decisions
Work in partnership with agencies such as health, police, housing and voluntary services
Maintain accurate and timely recording of decisions and interventions
Balance workload effectively within a challenging out-of-hours environment
Requirements:
SWE Registration
Qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW, Degree or equivalent)
Post-qualified experience in Children’s Services (Adults experience beneficial)
Strong safeguarding knowledge and emergency decision-making skills
Experience of working out of hours desirable
Flexible, proactive approach with ability to work under pressure
