About the Role

Hackney Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Family Safeguarding service on a locum basis. The team works with children and families where there are safeguarding concerns, providing intensive support to help keep families together safely.

The Family Safeguarding model is built around strengths-based, multi-disciplinary practice, focusing on tackling the root causes of harm such as domestic abuse, substance misuse, and parental mental health. This collaborative approach allows families to make positive and sustainable changes while ensuring children are protected.

You’ll benefit from Hackney’s hybrid working model (2 days per week in the office), reflective supervision, and a supportive culture committed to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake assessments and direct work with children and families within the Family Safeguarding framework.
• Develop robust safety and care plans, ensuring the child’s voice is central to all decisions.
• Work in partnership with parents to address risks and build on family strengths.
• Collaborate closely with partner agencies and Family Safeguarding specialists.
• Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, court, and review meetings.
• Maintain accurate case records using the Mosaic case management system.
• Contribute to reflective supervision and the team’s learning environment.

Practice Model & System Used

Hackney delivers services through the Family Safeguarding model, designed to reduce risk by tackling the root causes of harm while empowering families to stay together where safe. Practitioners are supported with motivational interviewing techniques, family group conferencing, and multi-disciplinary input.

All casework is managed on Mosaic, a comprehensive case management system that ensures efficient recording and integrated working across teams and partner agencies.

Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
• Experience in children’s safeguarding or family support within a statutory setting.
• Strong assessment, planning, and risk management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multi-agency, strengths-based framework.
• Proficiency in case management systems (Mosaic experience desirable).
