Occupational Therapist

Occupational Therapist | East Sussex County Council | £32 Per Hour

East Sussex County Council are looking for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join their Adult Social Care and Health service.

This is a varied role working with adults across different client groups, completing professional assessments and putting appropriate support in place to help people maintain or regain their independence.

You will assess how a person’s disability affects their day to day life and environment, making recommendations around rehabilitation, equipment, adaptations and other support where appropriate.

Role Overview

The role has a strong focus on promoting independence and improving quality of life.

You may work alongside the Integrated Community Equipment Service, supporting the delivery of equipment across Adult Social Care and NHS Sussex. This includes contributing to the community equipment catalogue, promoting safe and consistent prescribing and working closely with health professionals, social care teams, commissioning colleagues and service providers.

There is also a Joint Community Rehabilitation element to the service. This involves supporting people to regain independence with everyday activities such as washing, dressing and cooking, while helping to build confidence, reduce reliance on long term care and prevent hospital readmission.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete professional Occupational Therapy assessments across a range of settings.
• Make recommendations around disability management, rehabilitation, equipment and adaptations.
• Assess environmental factors affecting independence and accessibility.
• Provide specialist advice, support and therapeutic interventions.
• Advise individuals, families and carers around the management of disability.
• Work closely with health professionals, social care teams and other agencies.
• Support rehabilitation and reablement goals.
• Prescribe and advise on community equipment.
• Consider health and safety implications when recommending equipment.
• Contribute to environmental redesign and adaptation planning.
• Support assessments relating to residential, day or family based care where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate case records, reports and other service documentation.
• Support staff and students through training, supervision and delegation where required.
• Contribute to service development, research and project work.
• Manage and prioritise your own workload effectively.
• Maintain professional standards at all times
   

Requirements

• Recognised Occupational Therapy qualification.
• Registration with the relevant professional regulatory body.
• Good understanding of Occupational Therapy assessment and practice.
• Knowledge of legislation relating to older people and adults with physical disabilities.
• Good understanding of disability and its impact.
• Strong communication and report writing skills.
• Experience working as part of a team.
• Ability to organise and prioritise a varied workload.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage changing priorities.
• Experience of environmental assessment and redesign.
• Ability to use initiative and take responsibility for your work.
• Commitment to equality and inclusive service delivery.
• Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.

Experience in community-based Occupational Therapy, planning adaptations, local authority services and working with adults with disabilities would be beneficial.
