Position: Senior Social Worker
Team: Children’s Social Care – Locality Team
Pay Rate: £35 per hour
Location: Carlton Street, Barnsley
Working Pattern: Hybrid 


Sheldon Phillips are working with Barnsley Council who are seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Children’s Social Care Locality Team. The service supports children and families under both Section 17 and Section 47 of the Children Act 1989, carrying out a range of assessments and direct work. This is a dynamic frontline team where you’ll manage a varied caseload, contribute to high-quality safeguarding practice, and work closely with partners to ensure the best outcomes for children in Barnsley.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking assessments under S17 and S47, including risk assessments and direct work

  • Managing a varied caseload from early help escalation through to child protection

  • Completing high-quality reports and assessments for private and public law proceedings

  • Preparing and presenting cases in court when required

  • Monitoring and reviewing Child in Need and Child Protection plans

  • Working collaboratively with Police, Education, Health and other partners

  • Ensuring accurate and timely recording in line with statutory guidance and internal policies


Requirements:

  • SWE Registration

  • Social Work degree or equivalent

  • Solid post-qualified experience within Children’s Frontline/Locality teams

  • Strong safeguarding, assessment and risk management skills

  • Experience in private and public law proceedings

  • Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a supportive team culture

  • Commitment to child-centred practice and positive outcomes
