Senior Social Worker

Barnet | Locum | £38.50 per hour | Hybrid Working

Barnet Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join their Long Term Team. This is a rewarding frontline role focused on supporting children and families through sustained intervention, safeguarding planning, and relationship-based practice to achieve positive long-term outcomes.

You will manage a complex caseload of children subject to Child in Need, Child Protection, and court proceedings, while supporting less experienced colleagues and contributing to high standards of practice across the team.

Working Pattern:

• 2–3 days per week in the office
• Hybrid working arrangement

In this role, you will:

• Manage a complex long-term caseload of children and families
• Hold Child in Need and Child Protection cases
• Undertake care proceedings and court-related work where required
• Develop and review outcome-focused care and safeguarding plans
• Undertake statutory visits and direct work with children and families
• Lead and participate in multi-agency meetings, conferences, and legal planning meetings
• Work closely with schools, health professionals, and partner agencies
• Support and mentor less experienced Social Workers
• Prepare high-quality court reports and maintain accurate case recordings

What You’ll Need:

• Social Work England Registration
• Social Work Qualification
• At least 3 years’ post-qualified experience in children’s social care
• Strong Child Protection and Child in Need experience (essential)
• Court work and care proceedings experience (essential)
• Experience within long-term safeguarding services
• Confidence managing complex and high-risk cases
• Ability to support and guide colleagues
• Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills
