Senior Social Worker – Children with Disabilities | Rochdale Council

Position: Senior Social Worker

Contract: Locum
Hours: 37 hours per week

Sheldon Phillips are working in partnership with Rochdale Council to recruit a Senior Social Worker to join their Children with Disabilities Team on a locum basis. This is a rewarding opportunity for a skilled practitioner who is passionate about working with disabled children and young people, and who can navigate both disability and safeguarding pathways with confidence.

The Children with Disabilities Team manages cases where the child’s disability is the primary factor impacting on outcomes and planning. The team works holistically with families, providing both support services and protection where needed, including Short Break assessments, Child in Need, Child Protection, and Care Proceedings.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess children with diagnosed disabilities and/or complex health needs

  • Carry out Short Break assessments and plan appropriate support packages

  • Hold cases involving Child in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After Children

  • Complete statutory assessments, risk analysis, and child-focused plans

  • Manage cases within Public Law Outline and contribute to court proceedings as needed

  • Liaise with families, schools, health, and voluntary agencies to ensure joined-up support

  • Maintain clear, timely and evidence-based recording

  • Ensure plans meet statutory requirements and promote positive outcomes for disabled children


Requirements:

  • Social Work England (SWE) Registration

  • Recognised Social Work qualification

  • Experience working in Children with Disabilities teams or similar services

  • Sound knowledge of safeguarding, disability legislation, and care planning frameworks

  • Confidence managing a varied and complex caseload

  • Strong communication, assessment and report-writing skills
