Senior Social Worker – Localities Team | Stockport Council

Position: Senior Social Worker
Team: Localities (Duty and Assessment, Safeguarding and Court)
Contract: Locum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £40 per hour

Sheldon Phillips are working with Stockport Council to recruit a Senior Social Worker to join their Localities Service on a locum basis. This is a dynamic role covering a range of statutory functions including Duty and Assessment, Safeguarding, and Court work, offering a varied and fast-paced caseload.

The Localities model in Stockport allows for continuity of care and relationship-based practice, from first point of contact through to long-term planning. You’ll be joining a supportive, well-led team with strong structures and accessible management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to new referrals and carry out Child and Family Assessments

  • Hold a mixed caseload of Child in Need, Child Protection, and pre-proceedings/court work

  • Complete Section 47 enquiries and initiate safety planning where necessary

  • Prepare reports for Initial Child Protection Conferences, Legal Planning Meetings, and court hearings

  • Engage in direct work with children and families, ensuring their voice informs planning

  • Contribute to multi-agency meetings and work in partnership with schools, health, and police

  • Maintain timely and accurate case recording in line with Stockport’s practice expectations

  • Participate in team meetings, reflective supervision, and professional development


Requirements:

  • Social Work England (SWE) Registration

  • Recognised Social Work qualification

  • Strong post-qualified experience in statutory children’s services

  • Skilled in assessment, planning, risk analysis, and court work

  • Comfortable working across early intervention and statutory pathways

  • Proactive, confident, and collaborative in approach
