Social Worker – Assessment and Support Team | Blackpool Council | £39 per hour
Sheldon Phillips are currently working with Blackpool Children’s Services to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join their Assessment and Support Team on a locum basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled practitioner looking to work within a fast-paced frontline service supporting children and families through Child in Need, Child Protection, and court proceedings work. The team works closely with partner agencies to deliver timely assessments and robust interventions that improve outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.
Role Overview
As part of the Assessment and Support Team, you will manage a varied caseload involving Children in Need, Child Protection, PLO, and care proceedings work. You will complete assessments, undertake direct work with children and families, and develop plans that reduce risk and promote positive long-term outcomes.
The service requires confident practitioners who are able to manage complex safeguarding concerns, make evidence-based decisions, and work effectively within a multi-agency environment.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake Child and Family Assessments in line with statutory timescales
Manage a caseload involving Child in Need, Child Protection, PLO, and court work
Complete Section 17 and Section 47 enquiries and assessments
Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families to improve safety and outcomes
Develop and review child-focused plans that address identified risks and needs
Prepare high-quality reports, assessments, and court statements
Attend strategy meetings, ICPCs, core groups, legal meetings, and court hearings
Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and other partner agencies
Maintain accurate and up-to-date case recordings and statutory documentation
Apply strengths-based and relationship-focused practice throughout interventions

Full-time position – 37 hours per week

Requirements
Social Work qualification and SWE registration
Previous frontline safeguarding experience within children’s services
Experience completing S17 and S47 investigations
Confidence managing Child Protection and court work
Strong assessment, analysis, and report-writing skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure within a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and multi-agency working skills
Full UK driving licence preferred
