Position: Social Worker
Team: Children’s Assessment Team
Contract: Agency – 3 Months+
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £34 per hour (Umbrella)
Location: Princess Buildings, Halifax, HX1 1TS
Start Date: ASAP
Working Pattern: Monday–Friday, hybrid working available

Sheldon Phillips are working in partnership with Calderdale Council to find an experienced Social Worker to join their Children’s Assessment Team. This is a busy frontline role where you’ll be managing new referrals, undertaking timely assessments, and ensuring children’s safety remains the top priority. The team has strong multi-agency links and offers regular supervision and a supportive working environment.
What You Can Expect:
Office base at Princess Buildings with flexible/hybrid working
Supportive team culture with approachable management
Commitment to manageable caseloads and structured workflows
Weekly team meetings and reflective supervision
Rolling 3-month contract with potential for extension
Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete child and family assessments within statutory timescales
Respond to new referrals, including child protection and CIN cases
Undertake visits, risk assessments and direct work with children and families
Liaise with education, health and safeguarding partners
Attend strategy meetings, legal planning and conferences
Maintain clear and timely recording and case documentation
Requirements:
Social Work qualification and SWE registration
Frontline experience, ideally within assessment or safeguarding
Sound knowledge of thresholds, statutory frameworks and best practice
Confident in risk analysis, planning and engaging with families
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
