Position: Senior Social Worker
Team: Duty and Assessment
Contract: Locum – 3 Months+
Hours: Full-time
Pay Rate: £33.88 per hour
Location: ST4 (Stoke-on-Trent)
Start Date: ASAP
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, office-based and hybrid working available

Sheldon Phillips are working with Stoke-on-Trent City Council to recruit a Senior Social Worker for their Duty and Assessment Team. This is a locum opportunity for a skilled practitioner to join a fast-paced front door service and support vulnerable children and families at the earliest point of need.
 

What You Can Expect:

• £33.88 per hour pay rate

• 3+ month contract with scope for extension

• Office base in Stoke (ST4) with hybrid working options

• Supportive management team with regular supervision

• Access to modern tools and systems for efficient casework
   

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Undertake S17 and S47 assessments

• Respond to referrals and assess immediate safeguarding concerns

• Work closely with families and partner agencies to identify support needs

• Attend strategy meetings and prepare reports for child protection conferences

• Maintain accurate records and ensure statutory timescales are met

• Support junior staff and contribute to service development where required
   

Requirements:

• Qualified Social Worker with current SWE registration

• Post-qualified experience in a Duty and Assessment or similar team

• Strong safeguarding, risk analysis and engagement skills

• Confident working in a fast-paced environment with a multi-agency focus

• Ability to start promptly and hit the ground running
