About the Role

The London Borough of Merton is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Assessment Team on a locum basis. This is a key frontline service undertaking timely assessments to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.

You’ll complete high-quality Child and Family Assessments, manage risk effectively, and develop clear plans that promote the safety and wellbeing of children. The role offers a supportive team culture, regular reflective supervision, and an environment that encourages professional growth and innovation.

You’ll be required to attend the office 3 days per week, with the flexibility of working remotely for the remainder.

Key Responsibilities

Undertake timely and comprehensive Child and Family Assessments.
Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with statutory requirements.
Develop and implement plans that address children’s needs and promote family stability.
Work collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
Prepare clear, evidence-based reports for conferences, reviews, and court proceedings.
Maintain accurate records using Mosaic, Merton’s case management system.
Participate in reflective supervision and contribute to service development.

Practice Model & System Used

Merton’s practice is built upon a Strengths-Based and Relationship-Based Practice Model, supported by the Signs of Safety framework. This approach focuses on empowering families by recognising their existing strengths and working collaboratively to achieve safe, sustainable outcomes for children.

All case management is completed using Mosaic, ensuring effective multi-agency working and streamlined recording.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
Experience within Assessment / Frontline social work teams.
Strong analytical, assessment, and risk management skills.
Ability to engage families effectively and work collaboratively across services.
Confidence using electronic case management systems (Mosaic experience desirable).
