Social Worker - Assessment

Position: Social Worker
Team: Duty and Assessment
Contract: Locum, 3 months +
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £35 per hour (Umbrella)
Location: Princess Street, Halifax, HX1 1TS
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 1 full week in every 4; remaining weeks 2 office days per week

 

Sheldon Phillips are working with Calderdale Council to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join their Duty and Assessment Service. This is a frontline team responsible for responding to new referrals, completing Section 47 enquiries, and undertaking detailed Child and Family Assessments. Calderdale offers a structured, supportive environment with clear processes, a stable management team, and a hybrid pattern that balances office presence with flexibility.

What You Can Expect:

• Fast-paced statutory assessment work with a supportive management structure

• Clear duty rota with predictable office-based weeks

• Regular supervision and reflective discussions with experienced senior staff

• Collaborative working with Police, Health, and partner agencies

• An established, stable team with manageable caseload oversight

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Completing Section 47 enquiries, including attending child protection medicals

• Participating in strategy meetings and contributing to decision-making

• Undertaking Child & Family Single Assessments and pre-birth assessments

• Attending Initial Child Protection Conferences, core groups, and CIN meetings

• Chairing core group meetings and ensuring timely progression of plans

• Completing all paperwork linked to PLO pre-proceedings and care proceedings

• Maintaining clear, accurate and timely case recordings

Requirements:

• SWE Registration

• Social Work qualification

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a Local Authority

• Strong background in Duty, Assessment or Safeguarding

• Experience with S47 work, ICPCs, pre-birth assessments, and PLO processes

• Confident, analytical and able to manage a fast-paced caseload
