Position: Social Worker
Team: Child in Need (CIN)
Contract: Locum, 3 Months +
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £35 per hour + mileage
Location: Halford House, Charles Street, Leicester
Working Pattern: Hybrid – office-based on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Sheldon Phillips are working with Leicester City Council to recruit an experienced Social Worker within the Child in Need Service. This is one of the most fast-paced areas of the service, managing children and families where risks are escalating and where robust child protection and court work experience is essential.
What You Can Expect:
Hybrid working – typically in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
Supportive management structure with clear expectations and guidance
Parking expenses reimbursed (staff park in local car parks)
Caseloads averaging around 20 cases
Working hours: Mon–Thurs 8:30am–5pm, Fri 8:30am–4:30pm
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage a mixed caseload of Child in Need, Child Protection and Court cases
Undertake assessments, planning and direct work with children and families
Develop and review Child in Need and Child Protection Plans in line with statutory requirements
Prepare reports and statements for court proceedings
Work collaboratively with partner agencies to ensure effective safeguarding practice
Record all work to a high standard, ensuring compliance with local and national policies
Requirements:
Social Work England registration
Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification
Proven experience in Child Protection and Court Work
Strong assessment, analysis, and risk management skills
Flexible and proactive approach to working in a high-demand service
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
