Achieving for Children is an award-winning, not-for-profit social enterprise delivering children's services on behalf of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. Combining the values of the public sector with the flexibility to innovate, Achieving for Children continues to provide outstanding services that put children and families at the heart of everything they do.

Following an Outstanding Ofsted judgement across all areas, Achieving for Children is continuing to invest in its workforce, offering an environment where social workers are supported, valued, and encouraged to develop their careers.

The Children with Disabilities Team is a dynamic, responsive service supporting disabled children and young people from referral through to adulthood where appropriate. The team delivers high-quality statutory social work alongside strong multi-agency partnerships, ensuring children and families receive the right support at every stage of their journey.

About the Role

As a Social Worker within the Children with Disabilities Team, you'll work with disabled children and their families, completing assessments, developing child-centred plans, and delivering long-term statutory interventions where required.

You'll work closely with education, health, and partner agencies to coordinate support, ensuring every child has the opportunity to achieve the best possible outcomes. This is a varied role where relationship-based practice, professional curiosity, and hearing the voice of the child are central to everything you do.

You'll also have opportunities to support newly qualified social workers, contribute to service development projects, and act as a link social worker for one of the borough's specialist schools.

  • Assess the needs of disabled children and their families.
  • Manage Child in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After Children cases where appropriate.
  • Develop and review child-centred care and support plans.

  • Undertake direct work with children and young people, ensuring their views and wishes inform planning.
  • Prepare high-quality reports for reviews, conferences, and court where required.
  • Support students on placement and newly qualified social workers.
  • Act as a link social worker for a local specialist school.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case recordings in line with statutory requirements.
  • Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Practice Model

Achieving for Children places relationships at the centre of its practice, working collaboratively with children, families, education providers, and health professionals to deliver holistic, strengths-based interventions. The Children with Disabilities Team provides support from initial assessment through to long-term planning, with a strong emphasis on multi-agency working and early intervention to improve outcomes for disabled children and young people.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with children, young people, and their families.
  • Excellent assessment, report writing, and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
