Position: Social Worker
Team: Duty and Assessment
Contract: Locum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £37.50 per hour
Location: Loxley House, Nottingham
Working Pattern: Hybrid working – duty week every 1 in 4
Nottingham City Council’s Duty and Assessment Service currently has multiple vacancies for experienced Children’s Social Workers. Sheldon Phillips are supporting the authority to bring additional capacity into a fast-paced frontline service that manages new referrals, undertakes timely assessments, and works closely with partner agencies to ensure children are safeguarded. This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive team with a hybrid working pattern and defined duty rota.
What You Can Expect:
Several roles available within a stable and well-structured Duty and Assessment service
Hybrid working arrangement with office attendance required during the 1-in-4 duty week
A collaborative and supportive team environment with regular supervision
Offices based at Loxley House with direct access to partner services
Clear expectations around workflow, safeguarding responsibilities, and multi-agency working
Duties and Responsibilities:
Managing incoming referrals, completing Section 17 and Section 47 assessments
Undertaking child protection enquiries, strategy discussions, and risk assessments
Preparing Child and Family Assessments, safety plans, and outcome-focused recommendations
Liaising closely with health, police, education, and early help colleagues
Attending ICPCs, core groups, and multi-agency meetings as required
Maintaining accurate and timely case recording on the council’s system
Contributing effectively during duty week and managing active cases in between rota cycles
Requirements:
SWE Registration
Social Work qualification
Minimum 3 years’ post-qualified experience within Local Authority children’s services
Strong safeguarding, assessment, and frontline practice experience
Confidence in managing duty week pressures and fast-paced caseloads
Effective multi-agency working skills and sound decision-making
A flexible and proactive approach
