Sheldon Phillips are working with Tameside Council to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join their Safeguarding and Support Team on a locum basis. This team works with children and families subject to Child in Need, Child Protection, and Court Proceedings, offering a vital statutory service with a strong focus on relationship-based practice.
The role is primarily office-based, with flexibility for some home working to be agreed by the Team Manager. Tameside encourages full-time, 5-day coverage for consistent support across cases.
A safeguarding-focused team working across CIN, CP, and court proceedings
Strong support from experienced managers and established multi-agency partners
Office-based role with flexibility for remote work where agreed
Preference for full-time, 5-day availability for consistency across caseload
Opportunities for professional development and reflective practice
Complete statutory assessments under Section 17 and Section 47
Co-ordinate and review Child in Need, Child Protection, and Looked After plans
Carry out statutory visits and direct work with children and families
Work closely with parents, carers and professionals to promote the best outcomes for children
Contribute to care planning, family support, and permanency pathways
Prepare and present information for legal panels, child protection conferences, and court hearings
Maintain accurate and timely case records in line with council and statutory standards
Attend regular supervision and fully participate in professional development
Ensure all practice complies with Social Work England’s Professional Standards and local procedures
Social Work England (SWE) Registration
Recognised Social Work qualification
Post-qualified experience in statutory safeguarding teams
Strong working knowledge of CIN, CP, and PLO processes
Effective assessment, direct work, and recording skills
A flexible and collaborative approach to working within a busy team
