Social Worker – Safeguarding Team

About the Role

The London Borough of Brent is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join its Safeguarding Team on a locum basis. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference by supporting children and families at risk, ensuring they receive timely interventions and effective protection.

You’ll manage a caseload of children in need and child protection cases, undertaking assessments, developing care plans, and working closely with families and professionals to promote safety and stability. The team benefits from strong leadership, regular reflective supervision, and a collaborative culture that encourages professional growth and innovation.

With hybrid working (3 days in the office and 2 from home), this role offers a great balance between flexibility and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

Undertake Section 17 and Section 47 assessments in line with statutory duties.
Develop and implement clear, outcome-focused care and protection plans.
Engage directly with children and families to promote positive change.
Work collaboratively with multi-agency partners, including health, police, and education.
Prepare court statements and reports for child protection conferences and legal proceedings.
Maintain accurate and timely case records using Mosaic, Brent’s case management system.
Participate in supervision and team learning to support best practice.

Brent Council practices under the Signs of Safety model — a relationship-based and strengths-focused framework that empowers families to identify their own solutions while ensuring children remain safe. This approach is deeply embedded across the service, promoting consistent, transparent, and effective practice.

All recording is completed on Mosaic, supporting efficient workflows and joined-up multi-agency collaboration.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
Experience within Safeguarding / Child Protection services.
Strong assessment and risk management skills.
Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
Proficiency in using case management systems (Mosaic experience desirable).
