Position: Social Worker
Team: Locality Safeguarding Team
Contract: Locum
Pay Rate: £35.00 per hour
Location: Normanton Town Hall, Central Wakefield
Sheldon Phillips are working in partnership with Wakefield Council to recruit an experienced Social Worker to join their Locality Safeguarding Team based within the central area of Wakefield. This is a frontline statutory role working with children and families where there are identified safeguarding concerns, within a well-established locality model.
The team works with children subject to Child in Need plans, Child Protection plans, and care proceedings, focusing on purposeful direct work, effective multi-agency collaboration, and achieving positive outcomes for children.

A centrally based office at Normanton Town Hall
Duties and Responsibilities:
Managing a caseload of children subject to Child in Need and Child Protection plans
Undertaking statutory visits and completing direct work with children and families
Leading and contributing to core group meetings and multi-agency planning
Completing assessments, plans, and reviews in line with statutory guidance
Progressing cases through pre-proceedings and care proceedings where required
Preparing high-quality reports for conferences, legal meetings, and court
Working collaboratively with partner agencies to reduce risk and improve outcomes
Maintaining timely, accurate, and analytical case recordings
Requirements:
Social Work qualification (Degree or equivalent)
SWE registration
Post-qualified experience within Children’s Services
Experience working within safeguarding or locality-based teams
Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, including the Children Act 1989
Confidence managing complex cases and multi-agency risk
Strong written and verbal communication skills
