Supervising Social Worker | Leicester City | £35 per hour

Leicester City are looking for an experienced Supervising Social Worker to join their Fostering service on a locum basis. This is a strong opportunity for someone who is confident supporting foster carers, promoting stable and safe placements, and ensuring carers are well-equipped to meet the needs of children in their care.

This role would suit a practitioner who is organised, supportive, and experienced in fostering, kinship, or placement support work.

Role Overview

As a Supervising Social Worker in Leicester City’s Fostering service, you will hold a caseload of approved foster carers, with a particular focus on kinship foster carers, while also supporting some mainstream foster carers. You will be responsible for supervising carers, providing ongoing support and challenge where needed, and ensuring carers are meeting the needs of the children placed with them in line with National Minimum Standards and Fostering Regulations.

This is a full-time role working Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 5:00pm and Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. The role offers hybrid working, with a mix of home-based working, office attendance in the city centre, and use of local venues such as Children’s Centres. There is an expectation to attend face-to-face meetings at Halford House and other city venues, with the more regular mandatory meetings taking place approximately once a fortnight. The caseload is a mix of mainstream and kinship foster carers, and as some kinship carers live outside of Leicester, the role does require travel. The maximum caseload is 22, with the current average sitting at 18.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise and support approved foster carers, including kinship and mainstream carers
  • Promote stable, safe, and nurturing placements for children in care
  • Ensure carers meet the needs of children in line with Fostering Regulations and National Minimum Standards

  • Monitor placement progress and identify support needs for carers and children
  • Complete fostering-related assessments, reports, and recording to a high standard
  • Work closely with children’s social workers, fostering colleagues, and partner agencies
  • Attend face-to-face meetings at Halford House and other city venues as required
  • Manage a caseload effectively, with travel involved to support carers living further afield

Benefits

  • Competitive rate of £35 per hour
  • Full-time position with a clear working pattern
  • Hybrid working across home, office, and local venues
  • Manageable caseload with an average of 18
  • Opportunity to support both kinship and mainstream foster carers
  • Valuable experience within a well-established fostering service
  • Chance to make a direct impact on placement stability and support for carers

Requirements

  • Social Work England registration
  • Qualified Social Worker status
  • Previous experience in fostering, kinship, or children’s social work services
  • Strong understanding of Fostering Regulations and National Minimum Standards
  • Experience supporting carers and promoting positive outcomes for children in care
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work across hybrid settings
  • Willingness to travel as required by the role
  • Enhanced DBS and full compliance for locum work
