Team Manager | Birmingham Children’s Trust | £41.42 per hour

Birmingham Children’s Trust are looking for an experienced Team Manager to join their Family Help service within the Child Protection Enquiry Team on a locum basis. This is a strong opportunity for someone who is confident leading frontline safeguarding practice, driving performance, and supporting staff to deliver high-quality child-centred intervention at the point of risk.

This role would suit a manager who is decisive, practice-focused, and experienced in leading Child Protection and s47 work within a fast-paced statutory setting.

Role Overview

As a Team Manager in Birmingham Children’s Trust’s Family Help service, you will lead a team of Social Workers and Family Support Workers within the Child Protection Enquiry Team, with oversight of s47 enquiries and safeguarding intervention. You will be responsible for providing operational leadership, maintaining high standards of practice, and ensuring services are delivered in line with statutory duties, legal frameworks, and the needs of children and families.

This is a key leadership role within a busy safeguarding service, requiring strong management oversight, sound decision-making, and a clear focus on quality and performance. You will support practitioners through reflective supervision, oversee the quality of assessments and interventions, and work closely with internal and external partners to ensure effective service delivery. The role also requires you to embed Birmingham Children’s Trust’s practice model, Connections Count, within day-to-day team practice, while maintaining strong oversight of performance, quality assurance, and budget responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Social Workers and Family Support Workers within the Child Protection Enquiry Team
  • Provide management oversight of s47 enquiries and frontline safeguarding practice
  • Set high standards of practice, performance, and customer care across the service
  • Ensure child-centred services are delivered in line with legal and statutory guidance
  • Promote safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people at all times
  • Deliver reflective supervision, support staff development, and improve practice quality
  • Oversee quality assurance through auditing, case oversight, and evidence-based review
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams and partner agencies to strengthen service delivery
  • Embed the Connections Count practice model into everyday team practice
  • Manage resources and budgets effectively to ensure value for money

Requirements

  • Social Work England registration
  • Qualified Social Worker status
  • Previous management experience within children’s safeguarding services
  • Strong knowledge of Child Protection, s47 enquiries, and statutory intervention
  • Experience leading teams, improving performance, and delivering reflective supervision
  • Confident understanding of quality assurance, audit, and service improvement
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external partners
  • Enhanced DBS and full compliance for locum work
