Duty and Advice Team | Oldham Council | £39 per hour

Oldham Council are looking for an experienced Social Worker to join their Duty and Advice Team. This is a strong opportunity for a practitioner who enjoys fast-paced frontline work, is confident making timely decisions, and can respond effectively to new referrals and safeguarding concerns at the earliest point of contact.

This role would suit a Social Worker with strong experience in Duty, MASH, Assessment or frontline safeguarding services, who is confident screening contacts, assessing risk, and making proportionate decisions that keep children safe and ensure families receive the right support at the right time.

Role Overview
You will work within Oldham’s Duty and Advice Team, managing incoming contacts and referrals, gathering information from partner agencies, assessing levels of risk and need, and making clear recommendations around thresholds and next steps. You will play a key role in ensuring children and families receive timely interventions and that safeguarding concerns are responded to effectively from the outset.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage incoming contacts, referrals and requests for support relating to children and families
  • Screen and assess safeguarding concerns, identifying risk, need and appropriate thresholds for intervention
  • Undertake timely decision-making in relation to Section 17 and Section 47 matters
  • Liaise with partner agencies to gather and analyse information to support effective safeguarding decisions
  • Provide advice and guidance on referrals, thresholds and appropriate pathways for support
  • Complete written records, screening decisions and risk analyses to a high standard
  • Support timely progression of cases into relevant services including Assessment, CIN, CP or Early Help where appropriate
  • Contribute to strategy discussions and multi-agency information sharing where required
  • Ensure all work is child-focused, analytical and aligned to statutory guidance and local procedures

Requirements

  • Social Work England registration
  • Social work qualification
  • Previous experience within Duty, MASH, Assessment or frontline Children’s Services
  • Strong threshold decision-making and risk assessment skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing demands
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills
