Social Work Team Manager – 16+ Care Leavers Team – Kent

Pay/Salary: £47.00 per hour (Umbrella)

We are currently working with Medway Council to find an experienced Social Work Team Manager for their 16+ Care Leavers Team. This is an excellent opportunity to lead a dedicated team supporting young people as they transition into adulthood, ensuring they receive the guidance, stability, and practical support needed to achieve positive long-term outcomes.

You'll provide strong leadership to a team of Social Workers and Personal Advisors, overseeing complex pathway planning, safeguarding, and statutory responsibilities for care experienced young people. Working alongside senior managers and partner agencies, you'll help drive high standards of practice while supporting the ongoing development of your team.

Duties

• Driving excellent social work practice and making a positive difference to care experienced young people.
• Responsible for the operational management, supervision, and support of a team of Social Workers and Personal Advisors.
• Providing management oversight on complex pathway planning, safeguarding, housing, education, employment, and independence planning.
• Ensuring statutory responsibilities under the Children (Leaving Care) Act are met and high-quality pathway plans are maintained.
• Supporting practitioners with complex decision-making, risk management, and transitions into adulthood.
• Working closely with housing, education, health, and partner agencies to deliver effective multi-agency support.
• Delivering reflective supervision while promoting staff wellbeing and professional development.
• Driving service improvement, quality assurance, and positive outcomes for care leavers.

What you need

• Social Work Qualification.
• Social Work England registration.
• Enhanced DBS (provided by us).
• Previous Team Manager experience within a Leaving Care, Care Leavers, Looked After Children, or similar Children's Services team.
• Strong knowledge of legislation relating to Care Leavers and corporate parenting responsibilities.
• Experience leading, supervising, and developing high-performing teams.
• Excellent leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
